Hi. My name is Sean J. Jordan. I have to put the “J” initial in my name because there are several other Sean Jordans out there who are writing about topics of interest. I get their e-mail sometimes. It’s easy to get us mixed up.
So, what sets me apart from those other guys named Sean? Well, for starters, I have a master’s degree in Marketing Research, and I really enjoy discussing marketing problems and solutions. Love it, in fact — so much so that I’ve started a blog to share some of my thoughts on business marketing, new product development, marketing strategy, interesting statistics and marketing research!
As you may have noticed, I am also the Research Director for The Research & Planning Group, a marketing research firm based out of St. Louis, MO. I really love my job because it allows me to work on both qualitative and quantitative projects for great clients all over the world. Every project is a new frontier, and I get excited every time I have the opportunity to help a client explore how they can solve a dilemma with good, solid research.
I also have a wide variety of experience in many other fields. I’ve managed retail stores and quick-service restaurants, and even won awards for my accomplishments. I was a professional video game reviewer for a few years, and I also served as both a writer and an editor for some comic book publishers. I’m also in the midst of researching and writing some fiction and non-fiction books which I’ll publish one of these days (including a graphic novel for children).
In my free time, when I’m not chasing my dogs around or spending time with my wife and daughter, I am often engaged in creative pursuits. I’m trying to learn how to draw and how to play the banjo at the moment. I’m passionate about video games and board games. I also love to write fiction – you can find some scraps of my work at http://www.seanjjordan.com.

Born on the East coast, growing up in the Northwest and going to college in the Midwest has exposed me to a multitude of different cultures. It’s taught me how to observe and relate to people from all walks of life. I really enjoy learning about people’s values and backgrounds.
Besides the “people-watching” I have an interest in a variety of things. I go through phases in which I become immensely interested in a specific topic and will research it to death for a month or so. I was in a spores/fungi phase for a while before I looked into epidemiology and cognitive phenomena. When I was a freshman at the University of Missouri’s journalism school, I had planned to minor in microbiology, marketing, and psychology. And I wanted to finish in four years. Insane? Probably. However, I ended up pursuing multiple internships instead. I worked as a social media coordinator, public relations intern, events photographer and productions intern for various organizations and agencies. I was the account planner for a Home Depot brand project and team leader for Missouri State Teachers Association’s Bunker Hill campaign. Now, I’ve been working at The Research & Planning Group as the marketing coordinator for more than a year!
Besides marketing research, my passion is account planning. I strive to understand the human condition: what are people’s lives really like? What are their cultural influences? I enjoy consumer journey research – you get to learn the thoughts and behaviors that occur during a process.
